What Is an Anti-Freeze Valve Valve?

Function: The anti-freeze valve allows the circuit medium to be drained when the temperature reaches an average of 3°C.

It can prevent ice forming in the circuit of system,generally with a heat pump, avoiding potential damage to equipment, valves and pipework.

How Do Anti-Freeze Valve Work?

Antifreeze valves are used in circulation system, especially in heat pump system to prevent the freezing of water in the circulation and to avoid possible damage to the system and the lines.

Antifreeze valves take action when the heat pump is without function for a long time, e.g. in the event of power outages or operating disorders. If the water temperature in the system falls below +3℃, the Anti-Freeze valve automatically opens to let the water out of the pipes.

Note: The antifreeze valve is designed for use in glycol-free systems.

If the water temperature in the system falls below +3℃, the Anti-Freeze valve automatically opens to drain the water. It remains open until the water temperature rises above +4℃ again. When the temperature exceeds +4°C, the valve closes again and the system can return to normal operation.

How To Install an Anti-Freeze Valve?

Clean the piping of the system before installing the valves and install suitable filter devices.

  • Vertical only with the outlet facing downward.
  • With the drainer facing downward to guide the fluid to a suitable collection point. Leave a distance of at least 15cm between the drainer and the collection point to prevent ice buildup from clogging the outlet.
  • On the supply and return lines,maintaining a distance of at least 10cm between the two valves
  • Outside the building, at the point of the lines where the lowest temperature can be reached when the heat pump is inactive.
  • Far from heat sources and protected from rain, snow and direct sunlight.
  • The Anti-Freeze valve must not be insulated or covered by other materials.
  • Avoid siphonage-like pipe laying, as this will prevent residual liquid in the circuit from draining.
